AVOID MY MISTAKES! Top 5 Newbie Freehand Sharpening Tips!
I like 1095, and D2
Only project farm approached this scientifically
Pete, I think you're just subconsciously biased towards the Osbournes because they have a boomerang on them.
show me how you sharpen high impact ceramic. can’t get mine to get its bite back.
You going "Hi there, do you like top five lists?" while holding a knife is way funnier than it should be.
You could have just used some 2 dollar hockey tape on the og handle instead of spending 50 bucks on handles you dont need.
What I don't get is that if I look at a toothy edge under microscope I can clearly see those teeth just after I've sharpened it but after a few cuts on a cutting board etc. the edge gets substantially straight (under magnification) becouse those teeth have been worn off. So I am thinking that there is not really so much of a difference between the two and it's all in our minds... But this is just my thought.
Personally I don't want recycled steel.
I find it strange that both 1095 and N690 rank failry low in Dr. Thomas' charts in terms of toughness and yet they are the most resilient steels in Joe X's destruction tests. What do you think causes this big discrepancy? Because in practice knives made of these 'simple' steels beat stuff made of CPM 3V and I can't make any sense of it. Thanks for the video!
I'll buy that m7 if you don't want it, Bro.
Came here to decide on a new knife, stayed for Robo’s Theme.
The banker: keeps all his knives locked up in the vault so they don't get damaged.
If you get two Mora Eldris, you can use them as corn on the cob holders. With such large handles, it helps if you have arthritis. The Companion 125th Anniversary model has a 90' spine. For me, the Companion is more comfortable handle than the Companion HD. The pregnant belly feels uncomfortable to me. For me, the Bushcraft causes an uncomfortable pressure point between my index and middle fingers. If some material was removed from the finger choil swell -- so it was more tapered -- I think it would be more comfortable.
The AUS8 That was used in my 1982 Kershaw Kai Japan 1050 is absolutely amazing. It's also my favorite knife, I can get it razer sharp and skin a deer really quick with it. Old AUS8 is something.
Those garbage knives can be bought for a fraction of the prize under a multitude of names from Chinese vendors. RUclips / Facebook should really start taking down counterfeit and misleading products that con people into buying OEM junk with lies.
I never caught on to the pocket clip thingy. It seems to be on the way when digging in pocket for someting epse and tears up jeans (JMO). Although, after seeing what it does to folks, I will happily stick with my belt scabbard. Can't have any of that psychotic reaction stuff that happened here. I am crazy enough already! 👍😁😄😂🤣
Wait what is that actually
As far as UK friendly tools I have some comments as many look at the Bond for this reason. Besides the Bond consider: In the UK a blade-less multitool seems like it would be appealing. I mean a bunch of locking tools and you can just carry any non- locking knife you like maybe a SAK Compact if your tool doesn't have scissors for example or a SAK Walker if your multitool doesn't have a saw, or a SAK Waiter so you can open a beer or bottle of wine without getting a bigger tool out... There is still a tool-less Rebar and there used to be a tool-less Fuse or get a SOG and just remove the knife, replace it with something else if you wish as they sell individual impliments. If you could find a Leatherman Leap it allows you to remove the knife and is lightweight... Also there was a Leatherman Kick that had no locking blades including the knife and some (few) had pocket clips (sold separately). It just had screwdrivers, a knife and of course and plier head but it was light. Speaking of old tools if one could find a PST, PST 2, Sideclip, or even a Gerber MPT (copy of PST) they'd all work in the UK I believe. So I hope I gave you some UK friendly ideas to ponder...
I very much enjoy that you mentioned rex121 which soon is available for the sage 5. What a time to be alive!
I’m in South Dakota and ya I can walk around with any knife or gun lol
I like my SAK. Been carrying it for a couple weeks
Hey Pete, I think it would be an awesome video one in witch we see you sharpen a convex edge, since it is the outlier in all of the grinds. Since there is a lot of mysticism around sharpening convex knives I think seeing you do it could help a lot of people who are struggling (me included) deciding if buying a convex blade is worth it considering that one day you will have to sharpen it. Thank as always for all the videos and the different pov on the knife world.(again sorry for wonky English but it s not my mother language).
It's too much. Almost all the companies send stickers or random extras now. I only have room on my water bottle for so many stickers. Some sort of box is needed for protection during shipping, but I hate when I get a knife that's about 4" closed and the box is almost double that dimension in all directions.
The Sharpal 194H bubble level really help me out with maintaining the correct angle throughout the strokes.
Yeah I'm getting one. I'm also going to play Fire Emblem Three houses again. Nice touch with the music.
What do you do with all that shredded sisal?
This was in the TV show resident alien being called the best knife in the world and they called it the Gerber strongarm lol
my only issue with ZDP-189 - need diamonds to sharpen it and it takes so long to dual I forget how to sharpen it again lol
I can turn that into a full serrated knife.
Rex 45 in 4-5 minutes
Wow am I glad I waited till the end.
Thanks! so well done!! I know what sharp is as a re tired neurosurgical micro surgeon wouldn’t be unusual for me to have the scrub nurse change the scalpel blade two or three times
Man, this hit home. I got ripped to bits by some viewer for saying i enjoyed a Stanley fatmax knife in a review. He was scathing that, amongst other complaints, the knife in question "doesn't have a hardened thumb stud" 😂
well done finally im beginning to get it when it comes to steals I also have the TPROF RETIRED micro surgeon I’m glad you explained surgical steel. of course we’ve always known that.
At 6:30 , even the guitar solo in 2x still is amazing.
I found the review on the lack of prowess of the A1 pro knife hilt coming loose. Look up big brown bear review on the A1 pro. He used it to baton wood and did what you’d need to do in an emergency survival situation. The falkniven knives are dung imo. All hype vs function. Stick with the cold steel san mai srk or 3v srk. These knives fail every time i see them doing what they’re famous for
Robert Pattinson knows his shit
Hey Pete would you say it is worth buying for a food prep knife out camping or could you recommend another knife
Cedric, for some reason, you think it's all about you. Not even close, it has nothing to do with you or what you like any more than that junk mail mixed in with your CC statements and electric bills every month. That's not for you either. It's called marketing or advertising, same crap on T.V. if you watch that stuff. Nothing happens in this world until someone sells something and no one can sell anything until they have your attention. The budget for getting people attention is spread over many areas and applied more heavily to someone that's already spent money with a company. They don't care that you and I throw away all the stuff that comes with a knife because a certain percentage of customers with pay attention to that crap, creating another sale or two. I don't watch T.V. but when I did, I used the remote to switch channels if an ad came on but didn't yell at the T.V. or even pay attention. With email I don't read, I hit delete with junk mail, I use a trash can and keep the stuff I want like the CC invoices or a knife. The less we think about that junk, the better we feel.
There are few channels in the endless sea of youtube channels that I will like videos before watching them, and yours is one of them.
I like my two Fieldforce watches, very basic, yet elegant and well made.
Dang bro I just picked up a bond two days ago for 58 dollars but that’s also in USA seems kinda expensive for 100
I couldn't justify the high prices. I waited to get an AD20.5 until they came down a bit.
Got one it is shit
I watched the entire video and that brick wasn't mentioned once. You can get a better edge on a flat brick or paving slab then you can with pull though knife sharpeners.
JNat’s have overtaken my life the feel and sharpness is just beautiful
I didn't think anyone in this hobby would mention Arcanum! That was hands down my favorite RPG on computer growing up! That game also aged like fine wine.
I am confused. You continually said that is not good and has cons and more cons while using it cutting dozens of woods. Technically the most obvious con is that it doesn't hold the edge for long enough comparing to a metallic knife. But it holds some strength, and it has a potential to be a good survival knife. At least it can cut dozens of woods for making fire. Also, the quality of the resin you used may also affect though, but nobody mentioned about the resin or even mixing with some other materials to make it composite...
Brought a gns instead
